Google is bringing a satellite office to Ohio State University’s campus as part of a new partnership focused on artificial intelligence research and learning. Sheridan Hendrix reported the announcement for The Columbus Dispatch on October 1, 2026.
What to Know
Announced September 29, the partnership will place Google teams in Ohio State’s Energy Advancement and Innovation Center. The office is expected to open later this fall. According to the report, it will be Google’s first space on a university campus.
Plans include research collaboration, access to Google DeepMind, and a graduate research ambassador program offering students hands-on experience alongside Google teams. The partnership will also support Ohio State’s AI Fluency initiative. Ohio State will remain free to use other companies’ AI tools.
The Pedagogy Over Panic Perspective
Access is a starting point. What students learn to do with that access is the bigger question.
As AI becomes part of everyday learning, educators need room to teach more than how to operate a tool. Students also need practice questioning its output, checking evidence, recognizing bias, and deciding when human judgment should lead.
Partnerships like this invite useful questions: Who gets to participate? How will student information be protected? How will educators assess learning when AI is part of the process?
Those questions belong alongside the excitement. Preparing learners for what comes next means giving them opportunities to experiment—and the skills to evaluate what they encounter.
