“We have advanced so far and have much to celebrate in the achievements of Black girls across all areas,” states La’Keisha Gray-Sewell, GLMPI founder and CEO. “Yet their reality is plagued by overwhelming messages that devalue and oppress their uniqueness. Our program identifies films like Little as an opportunity to spark imagination and affirm the distinct value Black girls have in a global society beyond their everyday conditions.”
Over the years GLMPI has hosted similar events for films such as Hidden Figures, Wrinkle in Time, as well as The Hate U Give. Highlights can be viewed online. This year’s event serves as a fundraiser to support their D.I.V.A.S in the City, a free violence prevention summer camp and helps provide a job for two teen girls.
Event highlights include:
- Mini Mom & Daughter Fashion Show
- STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) Activity
- Panel discussion examining importance of storytelling and career pathways to digital media. Panelists TBA.
- Giveaways and prizes
Tickets may be purchased online . General admission is $20. Discounts are available for groups of 15 or more. Sponsorships opportunities are also available. For more information, contact 773-599-3490 or email email@example.com. Follow #GLMPILittleParty for highlights.
